Sunny Spring weather = jackpot for spotting amazing style around campus. This is Maddie and Jess, who were kind enough to let me take their picture this last Friday. I love the pattern on Jess’ dress (very Mossimo-esque, no?), the matching blue flower in her hair and the navy blue sheer button down as a cover-up.
Maddie’s look is equally as Spring-y, but with a touch of classic/retro style. Love the colored sunglasses frames and the scarf that matches the shirt. But the jean skirt and the Birkenstocks keep it from being too stuffy; perfect for campus.
Maddie’s earring board was actually what first caught my eye. She’s raising money for her service trip to Rawanda this summer my selling her handmade earrings. She also jsut found out that while she’s there she’s going to have the opportunity to teach some of the women there who are getting out of prostitution how to make earrings themselves, so they have a skill they can utilize and make money from.
The’ye only $6 a pair, so of course I had to get some. I fell for these yellow and gold beaded hoops; so bright and spring-y.
Look at these fly dudes, that’s Justin, Scott and the one on the right is named Dre.
I met Dre the first day of freshman year as I was moving into my dorm room. My mom and I were assembling shelves and all of a sudden Dre appeared in the doorway, asking if we needed any help. He was just going all around, saying hello to people. Since then, any time I’d see Dre around campus he’d give me a big hug and a smile, and he knows practically everyone. He is like a shot of instant sunshine.
Sadly, I haven’t run into Dre on campus in a really long time. It was like he disappeared into the ether. But yesterday, he finally resurfaced!
At first he caught my eye being so tall, and then I noticed that this skateboarder was carrying a small bouquet of colorful flowers. And then I realized who it was. He told me the flowers were for his girlfriend. D’awww.
I just loved the uniquity of the image, and then I noticed that all three of the guys were wearing shirts with variations of the same elephant print and that clinched it; they needed to be featured.
There’s nothing I love more than those perfectly, cosmically orchestrated moments in life.
We’ve been having a unexpected stretch of real Spring weather here in Seattle. Sun! Very little wind! Actual warmth! Awesome weather for lying around to study in the grass, and also awesome for style creativity. I have lots of upcoming posts highlighting the campus style I’ve been spotting. First though, let’s get my mediocre face out of the way.
I was sort of inspired by seeing the new Dark Shadows movie and all that amazing 70’s style, plus the late-60’s fashion being featured this season on Mad Men. So many fun, crazy patterns! So I went for a full 70’s spring look. Luckily, my Mom was a teenager during the 70’s and she’s a pack-rat like me, so she kept a lot of stuff around that I now have.
Also a hurdle for this outfit: more hair was dirty and gross and I didn’t have time to wash it, so I needed a creative and non-ugly way to hide that hot mess. The winter solution: hats. Spring solution: scarves!
Okay, what do y’all think of my 1970’s inspired Friday look?
This is Hope, a totally rad young lady in my sociology of gender class. Ok, to be more specific, these are the feet of Hope (which actually sounds like an awesome band name).
Anyway, I love these floral print flats she was rocking today, especially with the slightly pointed toe. Perfect for yet another implausibly sunny Seattle Spring day.
Plus, we exchanged mutual snaps on each others style as we walked out of class. Oh, Friday, you are rocking so far. Please keep it up.
Elizabeth Banks on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, 26 March, 2012.
If you’ve been following Elizabeth Bank’s public appearances for The Hunger Games, you’ll notice that she is TOTALLY KILLING IT. The pink top is totally an Effie shout-out, right? Plus, E.Banks is funny as all get out.
I’ve just started reading the first book of The Hunger Games, yes. Why do you ask?
